Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment (PRP)
form of your own blood plasma enriched with platelets!!
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Treatment
worldwide by clinicians as an adjunctive autologous biomaterial to promote hair growth !!
Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP, is a concentrated form of your own blood plasma enriched with platelets, which are one of the four primary components of blood. Platelets promote cell growth and regeneration. As the term “platelet-rich plasma” suggests, concentration of platelets is generally about 4-5 times more than in the blood. It contains several growth factors that assist in wound healing and tissue regrowth.

In hair loss treatment, PRP helps in stimulating a specialized population of cells named dermal papilla cells which are present in hair roots and play a critical role in hair growth. In skin rejuvenation and scar treatment, It helps by producing natural collagen.
PRP is used in the treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Skin rejuvenation, acne scars, post-traumatic scars, acute and chronic ulcers etc. For the patient who does not want any synthetic fillers, PRP is an alternative. There is little to no swelling, bruising, or lumping as the fluid assimilates into the natural skin environment.
PRP - PROCEDURE
PRP can also be used to enhance Laser procedures for faster and improved
healing. PRP has its own added advantages as it uses body’s own natural platelets. So there isn’t any risk of allergy. With this minimally invasive
technique, there is a significant increase in hair diameter and hair density
How PRP treatment is done?
Current protocols for PRP preparation vary greatly. PRP is prepared by obtaining 16 -20ml blood sample from the patient by using vacutainer tubes with an anticoagulant such as citrate dextrose A, followed by centrifugation. By this, the sample is separated into 3 layers. The upper 2/3rd of fluid is removed and the remaining lower 1/3rd of fluid is ready to use as PRP. Under aseptic conditions, PRP is injected at every centimeter, throughout the treatment site.
Significant improvement can be noticed, after 2-3 sessions.
PRP is safe and natural. Minimal pain, redness at the time of injections and
pinpoint bleeding are the few side effects.
Tolerable and temporary pain during treatment is there. This can be managed by using topical anaesthesia, nerve block etc.
In PRP, As the Blood sample is obtained from the same individual, PRP is devoid of transmission of blood-borne infection and any other serious adverse effects, except local injection site reactions like pain or secondary infection.
One session can be done within an hour.
PRP rich in growth factors helps in stimulating the hair follicle stem cells to divide and thicken the miniaturized hairs. It helps in boosting the regrowth and restoration of hairs.
PRP is a cosmetic treatment for naturally rejuvenating the skin. PRP stimulates collagen and elastin production which helps in making your skin smooth and tight and also helps in improving overall skin texture and tone
For hair loss, the procedure is repeated every 3-6 weeks, May require minimum 6 sessions. For facial rejuvenation, every 4th week up to 6 sessions. May require maintenance sessions every 3-6 months once.
In Vampire lift, PRP is delivered by derma roller or spread over laser resurfaced skin over the face and neck which makes the face glow and tone.
PLATELET RICH FIBRIN (PRF)
Platelet Rich Fibrin matrix or PRF, is platelet concentrates that require one spin and do not use anticoagulants. PRF is an advanced version of PRP which can be injected and contains stem cells with high regenerative potential. It contains several growth factors which help in wound healing and tissue regrowth. PRF, like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has wide applications and is used in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA), alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, skin rejuvenation, acne scars, post-traumatic scars, acute and chronic ulcers etc.

The advantages of PRF over other methods of PRP preparation are:
- Requires less blood than conventional PRP systems
- Anticoagulant is not necessary
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) systems can take up to 45 minutes to process the blood for application, thereby delaying treatment whereas PRF will hardly take a few minutes for the preparation.
- PRF prepared according to the low-speed centrifugation concept is highly enriched with platelets and leukocytes, and provides an increased concentration of growth factors
PRF Treatment Procedure
How is PRF treatment done?
We at FMS Skin & Hair Clinic, use a specialized device called Arthrex Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP) Double Syringe System for the preparation of PRF. The system features the patented double syringe technology which eliminates a second centrifugation step. The ACP System is fast, efficient, and unique to the market.
PRF is prepared by obtaining a 15 ml blood sample from the patient by using a double syringe system without any anticoagulant. Horizontal centrifugation is done. By this, the sample is separated into 2 layers. The PRF is separated by using an inner syringe.

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) is considered the newer generation of PRP (or platelet- rich plasma). It is one of the advanced regenerative modalities nowadays. PRF is derived from the patient’s own peripheral blood with a single-step, low-speed centrifugation system without adding anticoagulants.
PRF can be used to treat hair fall, and facial rejuvenation, as a combination therapy with lasers, and in ulcers, as it enhances wound healing.
Significant improvement can be noticed, after 2-3 sessions.
For hair loss, the procedure is repeated every 4 weeks and requires a minimum of 3 sessions. For facial rejuvenation, every 4th week up to 3 sessions. May require maintenance sessions every 3-6 months once.
Minimal pain, pinpoint bleeding are the few side effects.
