Comedone extraction Treatment

It is a type of acne treatment where applying simple mechanical pressure with a comedone extractor, will express the contents of the blocked pilosebaceous unit. Manual extraction of comedonal lesions has been well-described in the literature. The technique is safe and easy to perform.

How is comedone extraction done?

After cleansing the area, a firm downward pressure is applied along the direction of the hair follicle to express the contents of the comedone. Light-to-medium pressure should be applied directly atop the lesion with a comedone extractor until all of the contents have been expressed. The patient may experience minor discomfort secondary to pressure. For closed comedones, the lesion is first pierced with a needle to make extrusion less traumatic.

Curettage is a procedure

It is scrapping or scooping of the lesions using an instrument called curette , to remove the milia, molluscum contagiosum, warts, shave biopsy etc. The aim of curettage is to remove the skin lesion completely with minimum destruction of normal tissue. The treatment can be used alone or in combination with cryosurgery, chemical cautery or electrodessication.

It is a quick, simple, inexpensive procedure that can be done without local anaesthesia.

Postoperatively, you need to keep the wound dry and apply an antibiotic ointment.

FMS Best SKIN & HAIR Clinic offers you with these procedures which are simple and inexpensive.

Androgenetic alopecia is a multifactorial disorder caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and hormonal factors. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the main hormone responsible. The hairs produced by the affected follicles are characterised by miniaturised hair I.e, hairs are progressively smaller in diameter, shorter in length and lighter in colour until the follicles shrink completely and stop producing hair.

In men, pattern of hair loss is a receding hairline. Hair loss is also  seen over the top and the front of the head. In women, hair loss or thinning occurs at the crown of the scalp with complete or nearly complete preservation of the frontal hairline and widening of partition.
