DERMOSCOPY

as epiluminescence microscopy or skin surface microscopy is a non-invasive, in-vivo technique which aids in cutaneous diagnosis !!

Cutaneous diagnosis is often, but not always, visually based. Dermatologists tend to encounter situations where the possibility of differentials complicate the diagnosis and mandates investigations for confirmation. Methods commonly employed for cutaneous diagnosis may be invasive , semi-invasive  or non-invasive.

Dermoscopy, also known as epiluminescence microscopy or skin surface microscopy is a non-invasive, in-vivo technique which aids in cutaneous diagnosis. It’s a more modern and newer mode of visualizing the fine structure and characteristics of the skin under high magnification. Being noninvasive and simple to perform Dermoscopy brings great advantage to seek out the most precise skin condition for optimal treatment.

A dermatoscope can assess structures till the depth of reticular dermis and record images for future comparison. Subtle changes just like the distribution of melanin pigment, hairs, blood vessels and other structures in various skin conditions can be recognized much earlier than naked eye clinical examination with this instrument. Hence, Dermoscopy helps us to arrive at an early diagnosis and also may mitigate the need for skin biopsy.

Beyond diagnosis it also helps in Disease activity evaluation, Early comparison of pre- and post-treatment and Better doctor-patient communication.

At FMS Skin & Hair clinic In Hyderabad we have the most advanced dermatoscope and also a video dermatoscope with which even the patients can visualize their skin changes on computer screen with the help of the treating dermatologist.
