A dermatoscope can assess structures till the depth of reticular dermis and record images for future comparison. Subtle changes just like the distribution of melanin pigment, hairs, blood vessels and other structures in various skin conditions can be recognized much earlier than naked eye clinical examination with this instrument. Hence, Dermoscopy helps us to arrive at an early diagnosis and also may mitigate the need for skin biopsy.
